Discover Digital student internship programme runs for its second year receiving support from eight local companies.
Following the very successful first Digital Internship in 2017, the Digital Greenhouse was delighted to expand the reach of the Summer Internship 2018 to include eight of the Island’s leading companies to run the second Discover Digital Internship over the summer in Guernsey.
Over 60 applicants applied for the scheme, with a total of 15 students being selected after being interviewed to take part in the programme. Successful candidates include students from local post-16 Schools and Colleges, as well as students currently studying at University towards degrees in computer science, electronic engineering and sustainable product design.
The six-week paid summer internship is designed specifically for the island’s post-16 students to develop their digital skills as well as showcasing future digital pathways. It saw them working on a wide range of projects with participating companies who employed the Digital Interns for two-week or six-week projects. This years companies were KPMG, Sure, First Central Group, PwC, Healthspan, C5 Alliance, JT and Specsavers.

The internship ended with a presentation evening where the interns gave talks on their time on the summer internship, their experiences and the range of skills they developed. Including developing technical and creative skills on projects such as an app to encourage beach cleaning where Jake Wicks learnt to be part of an agile team doing three two week sprints over the summer.
