Digital Twins, Innovative Marketing, Transforming Travel & HR

A day in the life for businesses at The Digital Greenhouse

Often described as Guernsey’s Innovation Hub, The Digital Greenhouse has become host to a melting pot of new ideas and dynamic solutions created by its people and networks that encourage creativity and growth.  Here is a snapshot of what a few of the businesses have been up to:

Spike Productions creates Digital Twins

“Whilst the COVID pandemic has caused us many challenges, it has also presented opportunities.”

Over the past six months Warren Mauger, Managing Director of Spike Productions, has seized one of these opportunities and developed a new service - creating virtual reality tours called Digital Twins.  This means viewers can walk around a property from their computer, or using Virtual Reality headsets, as if they were there.

It is a perfect fit for the Property and Hospitality Industries to assist sales and visitors, but it is also a valuable tool for insurance companies to accurately document damage and as an accurate record when surveying properties, creating a wide range of assets including 2D and 3D floor plans and images.  The technology is enabling wider innovation,

“We have created virtual art exhibitions for the Museum and Art for Guernsey, which have proved popular and a way of extending the life of what are usually temporary.  This tech innovation has enabled them to increase their impact beyond the physical space and use it as educational tools in perpetuity.”  says Warren.  “We also work with facility managers, estate agents, hotels, and event organisers.  This technology is exciting and we are looking forward to what else we can create using it.”

Innovation Backed Marketing from Crowd

Ollie Smith from Crowd is passionate about innovation backed marketing, driven by a shift in corporate communications, radically changing the way brands need to communicate and engage with consumers.

“What were once viewed as niche channels of communication are now fundamental to any business’s planning.  And as innovation has propelled marketing to new levels of sophistication, marketing has in return delivered to innovators the ability to get an idea to market (or to test an idea in the market) with a speed, precision and measurability that was simply impossible previously.  As innovation continues – with new technologies created specifically for one use being applied elsewhere – artificial intelligence, chatbots, algorithm-driven advertising – all powering advances across every area of our lives.

Whilst that’s great, the best innovations will be left behind unless they’re backed by a robust marketing strategy that places them in the eye line of their target audience – from the developmental stage (without giving the game away) to soft-launch, full-launch and beyond.

And so the circle is squared. Innovation in marketing has given innovators the edge, provided they use it wisely - and that’s where we come in.”

GreenAir = Sustainable Aviation

Global Warming demands aviation become sustainable -  NOW!  GreenAir, a Guernsey Company, is leading the way to achieve just this.

They are establishing safe, sustainable, simple, quiet and affordable aviation in the Channel Islands combined with expertise and a proven business model.  Supporting them are internationally renowned cutting-edge technology companies within Project Fresson including ATI and Cranfield Aerospace who in turn are assisted by The States of Guernsey, Alderney and Jersey and local enterprise partners Crowd Media, Polygon Collective, Carey Olsen, LTS Tax, Spike Productions and the Digital Greenhouse.

Director of GreenAir Limited, Mark Harrison says: “For me, this innovation is my vision, tempered by 50 years aviation experience, given wings by the wisdom of my team, inspired by urgent imperative, enthused by the powerful financial opportunity it offers and drawing on massive determination - a true Pan-Channel Island Sustainable Team, a shared endeavour.”

He continues:  “Necessity is the Mother of Invention.  That necessity is global warming, a far bigger danger than Covid. Sustainable electric flight already exists, its humanitarian benefit is so powerful.  GreenAir’s innovation is making a vision happen today.”

Driving Positive Work Culture through Digital Transformation - White Wolf

A global organisational and talent strategy advisory firm, they help clients synchronise their business and people strategies to achieve superior performance.  And this is where their business innovation lies.  They understand the formula that drives operational efficiency, a harmonious culture, wellness and employee development can be hard to balance,

“Organisations don’t need more headcount, they need to drive a positive work culture supported by digital transformation and technology,”  says Amber Burns, Director of White Wolf.

Covid -19 forced organisations to experiment, innovate and operationally consolidate.  But White Wolf believes that if firms are to survive the difficult year ahead, the executive mindset must shift from innovation to transformation.  Without technology transformation or a transformation strategy your organisation, no matter how profitable, could get left behind.

“As an independent advisory practice to offshore professional and legal services organisations, we work closely with business leaders to elevate their HR function.  The key to any businesses long term success is employee engagement, talent management and reward.  Without talented people, your business will cease to succeed.”

Inspiring the Future

It’s inspiring to see such a variety of new ideas being developed and launched in Guernsey.  These innovations are the result of people using their own experience and expertise and opportunities they’ve identified to grow and develop their businesses.
