Global Game Jam 2019
|Date & Time:||25 January 2019 17:00|
After another successful year in 2018 Global Game Jam Guernsey will be running again for its 5th year in Guernsey taking place on 25th January 2019 at the Digital Greenhouse and is being kindly sponsored by Cortex, Granite Games and Old Doorways. The Global Game Jam is the world's largest game creation event taking place around the world at physical locations. In January 2018, events took place 803 locations in 108 countries with 8,606 games being created in one weekend.
The weekend stirs a global creative buzz in games, while at the same time exploring the process of development, be it programming, iterative design, narrative exploration or artistic expression. It is all condensed into a 36 hour development cycle. The event encourages people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate and contribute to this global spread of game development and creativity, with the sharing of skills encouraged.
The jam is always an intellectual challenge. People are invited to explore new technology tools, trying on new roles in development and testing their skills to do something that requires them to design, develop create, test and make a new game in the time span of 36 hours.
The event will start on Friday 25th January at 5pm where participants will watch a short introduction video where the theme will be announced. All sites worldwide are then challenged to make games based on that same theme, with games to be completed by Sunday afternoon. Games are not limited to being developed digitally, card games and board games are also allowed.
"The Global Game Jam is a great opportunity to get your creative juices going, meet like-minded people, and surprise yourself at how much you can achieve in the crucible of a weekend. Our game "Washed Up!" was conceived at GGJ 2017, and we later took that kernel, developed it, and finally launched it globally on Steam in October 2018 to some really nice reviews. You never know what it might lead to!"

‘The GGJ weekend is a fantastic opportunity to get together with fellow geeks and creatives from all backgrounds to work together to produce a game - all inside 24 hours. Last year saw the Digital Greenhouse turn into a melting pot of ideas and creativity with 5 very different games produced within 48 hours. Looking forward to GGJ2019!’
