On Saturday 6th February will be the inaugural Digital ACE event, to be held at Beau Sejour, Guernsey, 12pm to 5pm.
This free event is a follow on from the successful annual event, Safer Internet Day. It will provide guidance on online safety and security and also showcase the many areas that digital touches our lives in a very positive way. Digital ACE is about providing people with an environment that can feed and support their Aspirations, providing people with the inspiration and tools to Create new things, and to Empower us all to learn, discover and be safe in our amazing digital world.
The event is being sponsored by Grant Thornton Limited and organised by a range of people from across education, support agencies, industry experts and government, including the Digital Greenhouse.
Matthew Parker, a volunteer for Safe and Secure Online , one of the organisers, said “The event is part of national Safer Internet Day, which this year is focused on everyone playing their part for a better internet. Being safe and secure online is imperative. However, helping to educate people about the issues and how to deal with them will naturally increase people’s confidence and comfort to explore, enjoy and create with the range of amazing digital tools that we now have access too. That’s why we have created the Digital ACE event for Guernsey.”
Tracey Moore , chair of the Guernsey Online Safety committee, added “The event is open to all, and we are very keen for as many children to attend with their parents or guardians as possible. Visitors can become a Digital ACE on the day - they'll get a badge - by visiting the stands, learning and having a go at what is there.”
Mike Culverwell, Digital Greenhouse added “Given the importance being placed upon digital to provide career opportunities and diversification for the island’s business community it is important that we engender and inspire the next generation. The organisers are doing a great job and there has been a fantastic response from individuals, schools and industry wishing to demonstrate what they do and to provide a fun and enlightening event for children and adults alike.”
There are currently over 15 different companies and agencies involved with more to be confirmed in the coming weeks. These include:
Online safety experts giving advice for both parents and children
Demonstrations and activities including gaming, coding, virtual reality, 3D printing and robotics.
